HBB, an evidence-based program, equipped healthcare workers with neonatal resuscitation skills to reduce newborn mortality and stillbirths
Key Results
- Improved health workers’ neonatal resuscitation skills,
- Decline in neonatal mortality (40.15 to 24.67 per 1000 births
- Reduced early neonatal mortality (27.55 to 9.73 per 1000 births)
- Reduced birth asphyxia-related deaths (20.45 to 6.85) and neonatal care unit admissions across all four sites
Private Provider Readiness Sub-Grantee on Nigeria State-Led Strategic Purchasing for FP/MNCH Project


Scope
The project was designed to integrate mid-level private providers into the LSHS and improve their alignment with state health systems. Responsible for the provider health service quality improvement component of the project, working with mid-level private health facilities.
Enhanced service quality in 500+ private facilities through targeted quality improvement and capacity-building, ensuring better MNCH care and preparing facilities to be empaneled onto the Lagos State Health Scheme.
Key Results
- 239 providers completed the program, 79% had increased readiness scores.
- 65.6% providers had increased quality scores.
- 177 providers passed the assessment to join the State Health Insurance scheme.
- Increased the body of knowledge of quality improvement through our publications: Overiew of QI Initiatives and Effectiveness of QI Strategies in Mid-level Facilities.
SPDC - Repositioning Equitable Access to Comprehensive Healthcare in Nembe (REACH Nembe) 2014 – 2016

Scope
Implemented the REACH Nembe project with Bayelsa State MOH and Nembe Community Cluster, focusing on health insurance, infrastructure, staffing, and project management
Upgraded Nembe General Hospital infrastructure and staffing support, implemented QI activities, including SOP development, QI team setup, plan execution, and capacity building
Key Results
- Increased community health insurance enrolment from less than 4,000 to over 10,000 enrollees in an 18- month period.
- Improved quality of service delivery, which increased service utilization and patient satisfaction level from 10% to 85%
- Health worker capacity scaled up: staff increased from 38 to 90, supported by HR protocols and training.
- CHIS boosted service utilization (from 327 to 567 monthly average); out-of-pocket burden reduced.

Key Child Survival and Nutrition Practices in the First 1,000 Days of Life.

Scope
Conducted a formative research on the key child survival and nutrition practices to identify and analyze barriers and challenges to the adoption of positive nutrition, health, and WASH practices, explain and analyze the influence of gender dynamics and gender roles.
We coordinated the stakeholders' engagement, enumerators' training and deployment, field activities monitoring and supervision, and data quality assurance.
Key Results
- The results informed the development of the next iteration of the National Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) strategy for Nigeria.
